This post is second in an indepth analysis series to answer the question.
In simple classification and categorization terms, as we were so big on classifying species as we expanded our scientific knowledge – thank you Charles Darwin and funders thereof;)- and wanted to demonstrate that, as well as give reason for our dominion over every other living species – again as an economic drive- but that is in other posts.
In simplistic terms, we gave names to help us, most simplistically, differentiate, determine, describe and give expectation to behaviours and actions, of the roles we saw being played out within every species.
Such as :-
Ram Ewe; Boar Sow; Cockeral Hen; Buck Doe; Drake Duck; Dog Bitch; Billy Nanny; Stallion Dam; Man Woman; Stud Mare; Fox Vixen; Gander Goose; Tom Queen; and so forth.
The word ‘woman’ when we look at the word ‘man’, appears to most logically have been given the addition of the word ‘womb’ attached to it.
In old English, the word ‘womb’ was given largely to the belly in entirity. We hadn’t yet then the knowledge of all inside contents, so ‘womb’ was synonymous with belly, uterus, gut, stomach, abdomen etc. Certainly, that one of us, would have been perceived as the one who’s belly grew.
Who’s belly grew, in association with the astounding arrival of a new life. Such a tremendous event would no doubt stand out and be something to be referred to in any naming. Thusly Womb-man.
In this naming, the word Woman refers to the one of us that is the birther, the one of us that contains eggs to bring forth new life. With our modern, updated knowledge, we can add to this the one that is the menstruator, the cyclic bleeder, all of which upon fertilization and a few months of growth, cause a belly to become the most noticeable part, when standing a man and woman side by side.
in simplistic terms woman is Wombman. If anyone had bothered – maybe it was suggested and viewed as unnecessary;)) – pinman, pintleman, pintelman may have been the original long version for Man, as these were the original old english words for penis and undoubtedly something that would have stuck out for the naming!;))
To be continued.😊
